Day at Woodlodge

A Typical Day at Woodlodge Montessori School

At Woodlodge Montessori School, each day is thoughtfully structured to provide a balanced mix of learning, exploration, and play, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop, grow, and enjoy their time with us. While the daily schedule may vary depending on your child’s session, here’s an overview of what a typical day looks like:

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM | Morning Welcome & Montessori Work Cycle
Children are warmly welcomed by our staff as they settle into the nursery. From the moment they arrive, they engage in the Montessori Work Cycle, choosing from a range of activities, enjoying quiet time in the library, or chatting with friends and teachers. Breakfast is available from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM, and all children must arrive by 9:00 AM.

9:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Learning & Specialist Activities
Children continue their Montessori learning at our Montessori preschool in Northwood and participate in specialist activities such as French, Ballet, Tennis, or ICT (please ask the nursery for details). A self-serve snack station is available between 8:45 AM and 10:30 AM. During this time, children engage in hands-on activities that reinforce their understanding of concepts in a playful setting. For instance, they may practice counting with beads or learn vocabulary through interactive games in French. The specialist activities are tailored to spark interest and creativity, preparing children for future learning experiences.

Furthermore, incorporating mindfulness practices during the morning sessions can greatly benefit children. Simple breathing exercises or short meditation periods can help them develop focus and emotional regulation. This approach aligns with the Montessori philosophy of nurturing the whole child, ensuring they are not just academically prepared but also equipped with essential life skills.

9:15 AM – 11:30 AM | Small Group & Outdoor Activities
This time is dedicated to small group discussions and outdoor exploration, fostering social skills and physical development. Children might gather in small circles to discuss their favorite stories, enhancing their communication skills while building confidence. Outdoor activities include nature walks where children learn about local flora and fauna, promoting an appreciation for the environment. They also engage in cooperative games that require teamwork, encouraging them to work together and resolve conflicts amicably.

Additionally, art sessions are incorporated into the daily schedule, allowing children to express their creativity using various materials like clay, paint, and recycled items. These sessions not only enhance fine motor skills but also foster a sense of individuality and pride in their creations. Parents often find that their children come home excited to share their latest art projects, sparking conversations about colors, shapes, and personal expression.
